President Yoweri Museveni on January 6th spearhead a 60miles (100km) walk from Galamba in Wakiso district to Birembo in Kibaale district to celebrate freedom fighters’ heroic sacrifices for patriotism.

The symbolic trek code-named “Africa Kwetu” will start on January 6 and will last three days to January 9.

The Trek is organized by the NRA Archives Unit and headed Alice Kaboyo by the President’s Senior Advisor/NRA. It comes 20 years after a similar trek that took place in 1999.

A number of individuals and corporate organizations from around the country have already registered for the trek that will involve various war veterans.

Trekkers are expected to cover between 15 – 20 miles per day before breaking in the evening over a bonfire.

Museveni says this walk should remind Ugandans, of the heroic exertions of the freedom fighters who volunteered out of patriotism.

During the breaks, the President and other veterans will take the trekkers back in history to Uganda’s liberation journey and the role played by various organizations including The Front for National Salvation (FRONASA) and the National Resistance Movement then.

Trekkers will also enjoy the privilege of asking questions, interacting and watching historic clips on large screens.

Next year’s trek will end with the construction of a historic NRA Museum at Kanyara in Nakaseke district.
