The Uganda Police Force has set guidelines for the public and people operating open places to avert security incidents as the clock ticks its way to the new year 2020,
In a Police statement dated December 30, 2019, and read by Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga Ugandans have been called upon to be security conscious and act responsibly.
Enanga said there is often an influx of revelers in areas of worship, recreational centers, beaches with a lot of activities going on.
Enanga noted that they will deploy in these areas to minimize alcohol-related crime, any anti-social behavior and anyone putting other people’s lives at risk.
Enanga warned the public against burning tyres and firing bullets in the air as part of the New Year celebrations he added that Police will arrest anyone found in the act and they will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders.
1,104 fireworks display are expected selected centers in different parts of the country with only six contractors. Only contractors who are licensed under the explosives act following the standard fireworks procedures, these include sky flames ug limited ,MS Africa, Extreme events , quality lighting among others.
The police mouthpiece says all contractors will be escorted to their destinations by counter-terrorism units from the police headquarters in Naguru for display and monitoring.
