Police have on Monday, January 6 dramatically detained Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine after blocking his maiden consultative meeting that was to be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel church in Gayaza, Catholic Parish.
The legislator was arrested together with People Power Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa, Latif Ssebagala, Benjamin Katana and Lewis Rubongoya amidst loud noises from crowds that had surrounded the incident.
The entire crew was intercepted at a roadblock in Kasangati by heavily armed anti-riot police in Gayaza. Police were prompted to fire bullets and teargas to disperse crowds of his supporters that had gathered around.
They are currently detained at the Kasangati Police station.
Earlier today, Police that had deployed heavily at Our Lady Of Good Counsel Gayaza, Catholic Parish where Bobi Wine’s was scheduled to host his consultative meeting also arrested a group of People Power coordinators.

Those arrested include Kasangati mayor Tony Ssempebwa who heads Bobi Wine‘s election teams.
Police who argued that the place was open ground and not secluded, demanded the removal of tents and music service providers to vacate immediately. All roads to the venue of consultations were also closed off.
According to Police, this kind of arrangement contravenes the law particularly Sect 13 of the Public Order Management Act.
Police say they met a People Power team and gave them a list of things to fulfill before the consultations can continue.
However, the People Power Coordinators claim that among other things they agreed upon with the Police was to have an enclosed tent which was to be built on the day of the meeting.
The chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi last month confirmed the clearance of three Presidential aspirants including Bobi Wine to start countrywide consultations.
