The Parliament of Uganda has again postponed its plenary sitting, making it the second time in a period of two weeks.
In a fresh letter dated 9th January written by Paul G Wabwire on behalf of the Clerk to Parliament to Members of Parliament,it states that the plenary sitting has been rescheduled to Tuesday 21st January 2020.
The letter is copied to the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah, the Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business, Leader of Opposition, the Government Chief Whip, and the Opposition chief whip.
The letter reads in part “I am directed to inform you that the commencement of the plenary session has been rescheduled from Tuesday 14th January to Tuesday 21st January”
It also urges the different committees of Parliament to utilize the extension period to finalize reports on the budget framework without fail.
Previously a letter from clerk to parliament dated 3rd January had postponed the Plenary sitting from the 7th of January when it was meant to resume to 14th January. However, this letter also states that the current notice supersedes the one issued on the 3rd January 2020.
The postponement comes at a time when both Speakers Kadaga and Oulanyah are out of the county. Kadaga is in Canada, and Oulanyah is in Germany.
