Police in Kampala has in detention two people who including one Ugandan and an Indian on charges of extortion.
The suspects are identified as Mugumya Ignatius and Tuffel Belam.
Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson says that the suspects were arrested after convincing four Indians from India that they will get them jobs in Canada once they come to Uganda.
However, when they arrived in Uganda they instead kidnapped them at a Hotel and a ransom 50,000 US Dollars demanded.
Owoyesigyire says that police picked up the four suspects from a Hotel in Bweyogerere and handed them over to the Embassy of India as they are planning to repatriate them back.
According to Owoyesigyire, they have established that there is a group of people who tend to invite people from abroad while promising them jobs but when they arrive here they kidnap their passports and start demanding money.
