Police alongside the military in Gulu district have launched a manhunt for a Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) officer for shooting dead three people and injuring one.
The incident happened on Monday evening, February 10 close to the Pentecostal Assembly Of God (PAG) church in Pece Division, Gulu.
Major Olweny UPDF 4th Division spokesperson in Gulu identified the deceased as Ajok Beatrice 52, Owen Norman 20, and Dan Binyang 18, who were pronounced dead upon arrival at Lacor Hospital in Gulu.
However, an eight-year-old girl who sustained injuries in the shoot out is also undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Pece Division Chairman, Kelly Komakech, has identified the suspect as Corporal Geoffrey Okello, a resident of the same area.
Komakech says Corporal Okello had a fight with Ajok accusing her family of grazing her goats on his land an incident that went up to the local council authorities.
The issue was resolved but seemed not to favor Okello prompting him to retaliate by shooting at Ajok and her family instead
Brig. Richard Karemeire, the UPDF Spokesperson, while issuing a statement last night said Police backed by the military are searching for the suspect.
