Police in Iganga, has locked up 4 Suspects for tampering with a grave and disturbing the peace of the dead.

The suspects were arrested for causing malicious damage to the grave and taking human remains without following the correct protocol.

This followed a complaint from Isabirye Sowali of Nawangaiza village, Nawandala Sub County, Iganga District, who woke up on the morning of 22/02/2020and to his dismay he discovered the grave to his late father Magino Bakari, who was buried in early this year, dug and the remains removed.

It is alleged that the suspects sneaked into the home of the deceased and exhumed his remains with the aim of performing ritual acts on it for unknown reasons.

After removing their ritual requirements, they run away leaving the grave open.

ACP Polly Namaye Deputy police spokesperson said police with the help of a canine dog, they managed to nab one of the suspects at the shrine of one Nampala Muzamiru, who was arrested with the 3 others.

Police then recovered the remains of the deceased without the skull and samples were submitted for further analysis.

Namaye has cautioned the public against the illegal act of removing remains without the consent of a family member or the authority of the court.
