Forum for Democratic Change-FDC has withdrawn prior statements made by the party’s secretary-general to subject the recently elected KCCA speaker Abubaker Kawalya to punishment for defying party orders to stand in the vibrant race for the  KCCA speakership.

Kawalya who is a member of the FDC party, run the race on an independent ticket defying his party that had endorsed Makerere University Councilor Doreen Nyanjura for the speakership.

Kawalya won the hotly contested race by 17 votes, followed by Nyanjura with 14 votes and Muhammed Segirinya came in last with just one vote.

However, before the election of Kampala Division Speakers and their deputies, FDC party Secretary General Nandala Mafabi promised to have all FDC councilors who defied the party directives punished.

While addressing the press on Monday morning at their party headquarters in Najanankumbi, the party Deputy Spokesperson John Kikonyogo made a u-turn when he said that punishing Kawalya is no longer the party’s priority since he won the elections making FDC proud as a member who still holds party ticket.

He, however, called on all stray members of the FDC to emulate other parties like DP and NRM by finding their way back to the party for the greater good.

He noted that FDC top leadership is planning to meet all aggrieved FDC Councilors to sort out all their disputes.
