In the wake of a hard-hitting hygiene-related pandemic of covid -19 that has caused panic and tension worldwide the Ministry of Health has designated every last Saturday of the month for communal cleaning.

According to the Health Ministry, the  National Cleaning exercise starting this 20th of March is just one way of promoting proper hygiene among Ugandans and preventing the spread of covid-19 .

She noted that 75% of the diseases experienced in Uganda are a result of poor environmental health which can be managed by simple practices.

Kyomuhangi also revealed that hand washing among Ugandans stands at 36%. She urged the public to constantly engage in washing hands and proper disposal of waste materials.

Health officials say poor sanitation and hygiene practices among many Ugandans leave them prone to contracting the coronavirus.

The Ministry of health through the environmental health department has declared 20 March to be the public national sanitation day which will be celebrated in Bulambuli district at Bulengene Primary school.
