Uganda Medical Association -(UMA) has criticized the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga for declaring what they described as a ‘fake’ coronavirus treatment vaccine in Parliament on Monday.

Dr Richard Idro President of (UMA), noted that although several tests are being carried out worldwide, to this day there isn’t any confirmed medicine available on the market that would cure or act as vaccination for COVID -19.

Kadaga shocked the nation on Monday when she announced that a spray that kills the Covid -19 virus is currently being manufactured by Day international in the US and will be made available to the Ugandan market in two weeks.

She further informed the house that an American inventor, Prof. Safraz K. Niaz, who was in Uganda over the weekend invented the disinfectant and he is at the center of the Coronavirus response in the USA.

Dr. Idro in a statement dated Tuesday, March 17 noted that this announcement not only confuses but also diverts the population from practicing the known and preventive messages that would otherwise be effective.

The Doctor questioned why Uganda which has no confirmed case of the Covid-19 was handed the patent of a cure yet the US has recorded cases already.

He called the professor a quack scientist whose aim is to misinform the leadership of Uganda by claiming a disinfectant external spray can completely instantly kill a virus.

It is a standard procedure for any medicine to be deployed in Uganda, to first undergone rigorous testing for safety and efficacy by highly trained persons.

The Doctor noted that in Uganda, the only competent authority mandated to permit the entry and use of medicines after testing its safety and value in Uganda is the National Drug Authority-NDA.
