President Yoweri Museveni is tonight expected to address the nation on new measures after 14 cases of COVID-19 being confirmed in Uganda.
The Director-General for Health Services at Uganda Health Ministry Dr Henry Mwebesa on Wednesday afternoon confirmed five new Covid- 19 cases bringing to 14.
“As of today, 25 March 2020, there are 5 new confirmed cases for COVID-19 bringing the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country to 14”.
One of the new cases is a 57-year-old man dealing in salt trade from Adjumani. Records show that this man has not traveled out of the country before but goes to the South-Sudan border of Elegu for business.
The positive cases of Covid-19 include 2 of the 6 Chinese that had escaped to Zombo, a 63-year-old man in Najjanankumbi,a 57year old Businessman dealing in salt at Elegu border admitted in Adumani hospital and an 8 months old Baby currently admitted at Iganga hospital.
The baby presented with symptoms of Flu and shortness of breath and was rushed to the hospital by the father who had recently traveled back from Kisumu in Kenya.
The two Chinese who have been found positive with COVID-19 are part of the Six that escaped quarantine and tried to make their way to the Democratic Republic Of Congo. They were arrested, brought back and checked
The Senior presidential press secretary, Don Wanyama on Wednesday afternoon said the president will address the nation following a discussion in cabinet.
“After chairing a special cabinet session today, President Museveni will address the country at 8pm in face of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he tweeted.
Wanyama said the broadcast will run across all TVs and radios.
