The Ministry is in the process of procuring more funds to handle the pandemic of COVID-19 after confirming an increase in the numbers of those infected.
While confirming 4 new cases that were realized on Thursday the 26th of March 2020, Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director-General of Health Services in the Ministry of Health said the Ministry has so far received UGX 5billion shillings.
Mwebasa says the 5billion shillings received has been used for 3months now to handle supplies and materials for referral hospitals countrywide although more funds are needed to combat the virus.
He says they have requested for an additional shillings 26 million from the Finance Ministry to manage the novel virus dismissing reports that they required 112 billion
Mwebasa, however, disputed claims that the Ministry spends one billion dollars in one day saying that fee is too exorbitant it can chatter a plain to most villages in Uganda.
He also clarified that it is not true that the ministry has failed to feed COVID-19 patients in Mulago as claimed on by many.
”We cannot fail to feed 6 individuals. We cannot allow their families to bring them food either, because they could attain COVID-19”.
