President Yoweri Museveni has roared!

Coronavirus continues to devastate every party of the world with thousands and thousands infected and killed.

Uganda has registered 33 cases since the virus broke out in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year.

President Museveni has moved to lock down the country claiming the measures he introduced including banning public transport, gatherings and bars had not yielded.

I will address the country today at 8pm, offering an update on the status of the Covid-19 pandemic and what more measures we can undertake as a country to stem the spread of this disease.

In a national address to the nation Monday night, he introduced more measures which he believes can tame the further spread of the coronavirus.

Museveni stated: “I made directives in my previous communication and since then, we have been monitoring the situation. We have realized there are still windows through which #Covid_19 can still spread.”

The President said: “We have decided to prohibit movement of human to human. Some people had turned their private means of transport into taxi. The people of private cars were now the new public transporters without licenses.”

He went on: “In the absence of private cars, government vehicles will be pooled to provide help in health emergencies. They will be under command of District Medical Officers.”

Museveni noted: “Salons, lodges and garages should be stopped for 14 days as well. This movement of home to work needs to be frozen for sometime as well.”

He said: “Employers who need the employees to work should facilitate them to camp near the workplace to avoid those movements to and from work. If you must, get a letter from the RDC to allow the commuting.”

The President warned: “Any politician who gives out food seeking cheap popularity will be arrested and charged for attempted murder. When they give out food, many people gather around them and this could increase the spread of the virus.”

He said: “The government anti-corona actions of suspending drivers of public means, which will have put some people out of work. We are going to identify those people and supply them with food.”

Museveni said: “I direct police to arrest people who will be distributing food to people. That is looking for cheap popularity, because you’re going to make people gather which is risky, you will be charged with attempted murder.”

The President added: “If you really want to help, then approach the task force team which is headed by PM Rugunda and Dr Aceng. Give them the things, otherwise gathering people around you to play cheap politics is not allowed.”

He warned: “Those who try to take patients to the hospitals must also stop. If you have money, bring it to the task force so that it can be used in a planned way instead of you going to gather people who can get infected in the process.”
