Ugandans across the country seem to be taking lightly measures in place to slow down the spread of COVID -19 as Uganda now hits 52 cases and counting.

Large numbers are seen lazily flocking the streets of Kampala and other areas countrywide under no clear circumstance, some visiting trading centers for their daily gossip, jogging, mixing up with the few who are among the essential service providers.

The Ministry of Health registered four new cases of COVID-19 bringing the number of confirmed cases to 52 by Sunday evening.

The four cases were part of 300 samples from people under quarantine tested on the same day. Over 2,900 samples have been tested at the Uganda Virus Research Institute.

Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng encouraged the public to stay home and follow the standard global guidelines of social distancing, washing hands regularly and sanitizing slow down the spread of the novel virus.

“Out of 300 samples tested today, four are positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases to 52 in the country.  Let us stay home and stay safe,” she said.

All confirmed cases are stable and receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital, Hoima, Adjumani and Entebbe General hospitals.

During his national COVID-19 address to the nation, the president expressed contentment with Ugandans saying the majority were religiously respecting the quarantine.

Museveni also warned LDU’s against violating residents by storming into their households and clobbering them and   Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema to take note of those involved for action.

‘Some LDUs are misbehaving by entering people’s homes. With Curfew you are looking for people outside not inside homes Col. Nakalema would handle such cases firmly’

He also warned crime preventers against involving themselves in any security-related tasks as the country responds to the spread of the Coronavirus and announced errant LDU’s would be handed heavy disciplinary action.

Following the stern warning, the public continues to express laxity on the streets and in market places disregarding the social distancing rule of 4 meters in all directions of each person and not staying home as advised without fear of being infected or escalating the spread of the virus.
