Our 55th covid-19 case was named as a truck driver!

Truck drivers everywhere are known for their love for the sumbie.

They run several homes along the routes they operate in. They were key in the spread of the lethal HIV/Aids scourge in the East African region.

Studies by Knowledge Management and Communications Capacity in 2014 have revealed a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS among long distance truck drivers and their assistants in East Africa.

Over 31,588 long distance truck drivers are estimated to be living in Uganda at any given time of the year

We were hit by the news of truck drivers when government announced recently that they would be subjected to tests.

Yes, we need the essential imports but aren’t we already exposing ourselves to a much bigger risk?

Malaba is a hot spot for drivers and their love for women. Kenya has been flexible in handling the Covid-19 fight.

The move by Uganda to test these chaps might have come after day’s of ignorance but it is very much okay.

Vigilance is the word. Many of these drivers cross into Somalia, Ethiopia and some even to DRC and South Sudan.

How many people do they come across? We can not put the country at risk letting them in without ascertaining their health.

Subjecting them to a week of quarantine would not be a bad idea, given that our health is all that matters.

Uganda currently is happy with 55 confirmed cases and no fatalities yet.
