As UPDF works tirelessly with other partners to remove water hyacinth from floating Island that blocked the turbines running, Nalubale, Kira and Bujagali power dams, another island is fast approaching Nalubale power plant.
The three-acre floating island is just 200meters away from the Nalubale power plant.
It was discovered on Sunday night vegetation started moving from Kirinya across the Nile to the new bridge and is currently rotating around the old bridge.
The island measuring four meters deep has split into 15 smaller pieces because of heavy winds, which keep on blowing the island in different directions.
Maj. Ivan Tukei, a UPDF Officer attached to the Engineering Brigade, says the Island broke off from a bigger floating island that started at Bugungu landing site.
He says they were shocked to learn that another island that was 7 kilometers away on Sunday afternoon was approaching the dam just after they had concluded removing debris from the previous one.
He says they will have to extend the exercise for 5 more days to be able to clear it.
