Fresh news reaching our desk has confirmed that Cabinet seating chaired by President Museveni has on Monday, May 05th resolved to extend the lockdown for another two weeks but with minor changes.
However, the meeting, which was chaired by President Museveni also zeroed down on allowing private cars, legal, and construction firms back on the road and operating but under strict guidelines.
Private vehicles will only be used on condition that they carry strictly two people on board.
Cabinet also set on intensifying border security by massively deploying both security personnel and health workers at border points and health facilities.
Meanwhile, other areas like public transport and those that attract mass gatherings like places of worship, music concerts, bars, hotels, and lodges will stay closed for now.
However, on matters sensitive to school, the Cabinet sub-committee will reconvene for discussion.
This comes after the National COVID-19 Taskforce led by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Health experts, Security officials represented by the Deputy CDF Wilson Mbadi and IGP Okoth Ochola met the President Sunday morning at State House Entebbe and reportedly suggested an extension of 3 more weeks.
Their argument was based on the two cases that re-emerged from local communities in Masindi and Mutukula during a rapid testing survey by the Ministry of Health to assess the COVID-19 prevalence among locals in Uganda.
This is a sneak peek on what has been extensively discussed by the cabinet in a protracted closed-door meeting.
What is left is the much-anticipated speech from the president himself expected to happen tonight at 8pm.
Museveni will enlighten the public and communicate on the resolutions cabinet has made. Make a date!
