A blatant soldier at the rank of a sergeant has been jailed for defiling a 14-year-old girl.
The accused is Sergeant Rajab Tumwesigye who is attached to the Directorate of Music in the Uganda People’s Defense Air Force.
The General Court Martial in Makindye seating on Monday remanded Sergeant Tumwesigye to Kitalya Minimax prison for aggravated defilement.
Court heard that on February 26, 2020 while at Katabi Barracks, Tumwesigye performed the sexual act with a 14-year-old girl.
An unrelenting Tumwesigye who pleaded not guilty to the charges appeared before the General Court Martial panel chaired by Lt General Andrew Gutti.
However, the Army Prosecutor, Major Samuel Maserejje asked the court to remand the accused to prison as investigations continue.
Therefore Lt General Andrew Gutti sent the accused jail coolers till t June 8, 2020 when his case comes up for mention.
A recent Annual Crime report by the Uganda Police Force shows that 13,682 girls were defiled in 2019 compared to 17,521 in 2018.
