Kampala metropolitan police have begun releasing Taxis that were confiscated for operating illegally on Thursday.
A total 0f 114 taxis were busted by traffic police at different parts of the Kampala metropolitan area while carrying passengers without route charts.
Others were confiscated because they were found in possession of forged duplicate paper routes that they were using to operate.
The operation was manned by the deputy Kampala metropolitan police commander, Dennis Namuwooza, and traffic police commander for Kampala, Norman Musinga.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) alongside the Ministry of Works and Transport recently directed that all taxis, coasters, and buses first register to secure route charts before proceeding to operate.

The impounded vehicles were mostly caught at both gazette and non-gazetted parks picking up customers without registering first with KCCA and the Ministry.
The Kampala Metropolitan police mouthpiece Patrick Onyango says the passenger vehicles are currently parked at various Police Stations within Kampala Metropolitan Police.
He says police have started handing over taxis to the owners once they have registered with KCCA.

According to KCCA , all drivers of passenger vehicles are required to fill a registration form showing original Names, National Identity Card Number and the KCCA City Operator Identification Number, and attach a copy of the vehicle logbook or a sales agreement, a copy of the driver’s license and proof of PSV tax payments.
