All operators of passenger service vehicles-PSVs including Taxis and Buses and Minibusses have until 31st of December 2020 to have permanent route charts and their vehicles examined to ensure they meet the right standards for operation.

According to the Ministry of Works and transport, by 31st of Dec 2020, all PSVs must be subjected to inspection before that date to ascertain if indeed they are fit to be on the road.

The ministry of works has also indicated that the government will issue permanent route charts and ensure all vehicles are inspected before getting back to the road.

Under the taxi registration process at KCCA, Taxi operators are first given route numbers which they present to the Ministry of Works so as to get route charts before they are allowed on the road.

The route chart from the ministry of works and transport indicates the name of the taxi owner, car registration number, park of origin, route number and details of the route up to the final exit from the city.

Kampala Capital City Authority- KCCA has so far registered and issued route numbers to 13,301 taxis however, only 10,501 taxis possess route charts that allow them to work.

Meanwhile, Kampala Capital City Authority has also revealed that they have started registering 2 drivers per taxi in the on-going exercise.

The Works and Transport minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, acknowledged that taxi operators are now allowed to register two taxi drivers per taxi.
