Police have released an official statement on circumstances surrounding the demise of an ardent people power supporter who died on Monday morning while receiving treatment at Mulago hospital.

Rita Nabukenya was involved in an accident while moving on a Boda Boda at about 8 am in Nakawa, behind the Nakawa market.

News of the accident went viral when the Candid people power spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi took to social media platforms of Facebook and Twitter and announced his version of what happened.

Ssenyonyi claims the deceased was clad in people’s power attire while moving on a Boda Boda when a police truck saw her and chased after them before running her over killing her on spot.

Nabukenya, 28 who was commonly known as Priya in People Power circles was reportedly traveling on a Boda Boda on her way to attend a consultative meeting by their leader, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine in Ndeeba.

However, police have since come up with its statement signed by Luke Owesigirye the Kampala metropolitan deputy spokesperson.

It indicates that the deceased was moving on a motorcycle UEY carrying the that was trying to overtake a 999 patrol vehicle UP4841 when it collided with another motorcycle on the run whose registration number is not yet known.

It is at that moment that Nabukenya fell off the motorcycle and sustained major injuries.

The statement goes on to say that she was rushed to Mulago hospital in the patrol truck where she was pronounced dead.

The statement says Traffic police on Jinja road have started investigations and will record statements from eyewitnesses and the 999 patrol as well as view CCTV footage to ascertain what really happened.
