Members of parliament have expressed discontent with the process of distribution of food relief items that has so far partially covered the districts of Kampala and Wakiso districts.

Musa Ecweru the State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, on Tuesday, explained to parliament that the government has handled 25,548 in 7,548 households for the last three days out of the 1.5million people that are expected to benefit from this countrywide.

Ecweru also clarified to the angry MPs that President Yoweri Museveni was not responsible for defying Parliament’s decision to halt the process but the decision was taken by his ministry because of the need to save lives.

”I want to make it abundantly clear that it is not his excellency the president who ordered us to defy any suggestion by parliament , I want to carry the blame the president of Uganda respects this house,” Ecweru said

Ecweru explained the distribution exercise is targeting persons like taxi operators , saloon workers, market vendors who live in informal settlements.

However, Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko informed parliament that even in Kampala, where the government claims to be distributing food, only 100 homes were selected in every parish to benefit while breastfeeding mothers are being sent to hospitals to get the milk.

Nsereko asked for honesty and transparency so that the help can go out to all people that are deemed to get it.

”The people that leave in Kampala are not only located in slums we have people that are off work like taxi drivers and other Matatu drivers that don’t only stay in slums” Nsereko said.

Kadaga rubbished Eceru’s explanation saying they have absolutely no plan for this distribution exercise to reach the whole country except for the two districts that have been inadequately covered.

The Speaker demanded a plan for other districts as compared to just the two districts that according to her have not even been fully covered yet.
