Kenyans Tuesday were mad at President Uhuru Kenyatta for mismanaging the fight against Corona virus.

They argued while Uganda their neighbours have a combative mechanism to fight off the deadly virus, Kenya is struggling to come to terms with the situation.

East Africa’s leading economy has to-date 216 cases and 9 fatalities, making it the most dangerous spot for the virus.

Kenyans argue President Uhuru sanctioned lock down in the hot spot areas of Nairobi and Mombasa rather late.

This late charge towards ensuring the virus does not eat into the population has left the rest of East Africa exposed.

Kenya plays a huge role in the region given its strategic location from the sea at Mombasa. Mombasa is the link to the rest of the region.

Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Burundi have left their borders open for tracks. Uganda’s latest case was a track driver who tested positive at Malaba while trying to access the country.

Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania all shut their airports denying more cases from citizens jetting in from the hot spots of Western World and Asia.

This left the borders as the porous areas to keep a keen eye on. Kampala will go through the 21 days assessing the situation across the border.

President Yoweri Museveni who has done brilliantly in keeping the numbers low, will most likely base his decision on whether to release his people from the lock down on what is happening in Nairobi.

Both Museveni and Uhuru extended their shut down by 21 days. However, the Kenyan leader will need to tighten the grip on his people.

32 people reportedly except from quarantine in the town of Madera. How does Uhuru deal with the carelessness of his officers? Where does this incompetence leave the region?

Can the rest of the region open up and lock significant Kenya out of the equation? President Museveni and the other East African heads may be left with the most difficult decision of either switching to Tanzania for options on goods getting into the country from overseas or the air space.

The challenges UK, Italy, Spain and USA face with several corona virus cases is as a result of late action towards fending over the enemy.

Kenya have found herself in a fiasco with growing number of cases and fatalities as a result of letting it loose. Until 6th April Kenya had their citizens moving in and out of Nairobi freely. Really?

The concentration of eyes on Nairobi and Mombasa only complicates matters. Lock downs are working well for East African nations that imposed early. Uganda has 55 with no fatalities. Tanzania has 59 cases with only 3 fatalities. Burundi has 5 cases with no fatalities. Rwanda has 134 cases with no fatalities.

With the stats above, Kenya will need to double its efforts to save her 50M population and the region from the deadly covid-19.
