Kenya’s Covid-19 fight has Saturday been hit by a jump in cases.

Dr. Mercy Mwangangi Chief Administrative Secretary, has confirmed that in the last 24 hours, they have managed to test 1195 samples and 24 people tested positive for Corona-virus.

Dr. Mercy revealed that there were 7 cases in Kawangware, 10 cases in Eastleigh, 5 cases in Mombasa and 2 cases in Kuria West (Migori County).

Kenya’s national tally is 435 cases, 152 recoveries and 22 fatalities.

Dr. Mercy announced government fears: “It’s disturbing to note that the measures aren’t strictly being adhered to, a random check within our city reveals that business outlets have gone back to operate as if these are normal times. We would like to remind them that the disease is still with us.”

She added: “We have seen many employees still going to work despite us encouraging employers to allow them to work from home and traffic almost resuming normal, this is a dangerous trend.”

Dr. Mercy explained: “Ministry of Kenya is working to ensure a comfortable stay for those quarantined. Because of anticipated surge in numbers, we are working on a quarantine system, including the possibility of home-quarantine for those who are able.”

On the worsening situation in Tanzania, the CAS said: “There are discussions with our different member states to be able to come up with mechanisms that actually enforce good screening procedures at the borders.”

Dr. Mercy on contact tracing and testing: “We are not simply running around and picking people on the streets, there is actually a science behind how that is done.”

On tests, she said: “We have the capacity to test almost 37,000 people a day.”

Dr. Patrick Amoth, Health Director General chipped in: “We are not out of the woods yet; we expect a surge in our numbers as we continue with the targeted testing and therefore it means we will require more quarantine facilities.”

Dr. Amoth on the treatment landscape, said: “As of today we have 214 patients spread across various hospitals from the coast to the western part of the country out of these it’s only 1 patient who is in critical care under ventilatory support at Kenyatta University Hospital.”
