Kenya has recorded 45 more cases of Covid-19 bringing the total number to 535.

The confirmed new cases are: 29 from Nairobi – all from Eastleigh, 11 from Mombasa, 5 from Wajir and one foreign national from Somalia.

Cabinet Health Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, warned: “The figures we are hearing today are a clear indication that things are not getting better… those exhibiting indiscipline and leading others astray are becoming a common phenomenon.”

Mutahi pointed out: “There is community spread in three key areas: Eastleigh, Kawangware, and Old Town Mombasa… we need to take serious action in those areas.”

He identified: “People have been going to pubs and eateries, they order one sausage and two beers then anatoka hapo anaingia hoteli ingine anakula sausage ingine na beer zingine mbili… kusema ukweli, what are we doing?”

Mutahi explained: “We can do better. By we, I mean you and I… I share the feelings that people have. People send me messages of anger, having observed people sitting together against advise…I appeal to the political class to educate people, tell them the challenges we face as a nation.”

On stigma, the cabinet secretary said: “We should have a lot of understanding, empathy and sympathy so that we don’t discriminate against parts of our society.”

Mutahi revealed: “As of today 9 new discharges have been recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 182.”
