Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has ordered the minister of health to explain to the house why mask making has been limited to Nytil.

Members of Parliament are concerned with the tagging of the lifting of the lock down on the distribution of masks to the public allover the country.

Kadaga’s directive follows concerns by Kawempe North MP Latif Sebagala that Nytil may take longer to make the masks and delay the process to deliver them to the public.

Sebaggala questioned: “I do not think it will be possible to distribute masks around the whole country in two weeks. Let the government allow people to move with the masks they have purchased for themselves.”

Speaker Kadaga urged: “The manufacture of masks should not be limited to only Nytil but to all companies that have the capacity to produce them.

She directed the Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng to brief the House on masks Wednesday plenary.

Kadaga also revealed: “I have received information that many truck drivers, especially at the Elegu border, are in hiding. Government should quickly trace them otherwise we are in danger of getting a full-blown Covid-19 pandemic in the country.”
