The Ministry of health has on Monday announced 40 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of infections in Uganda to 457.

The 40 samples were part of 1,319 samples that were tested from different points of entry on Sunday.

23 of the confirmed cases are from Ugandan truck drivers while 17 were contacts of truck drivers..

Also, 31 foreign truck drivers were repatriated to their country of origin after testing positive for the virus

This comes after 7 health workers currently admitted at the Entebbe Referral Hospital tested positive for the disease stirring a wave of panic amongst Ugandans.

With the president expected to address the nation today’s evening at 8 pm, one cannot be certain what the outcome of his address will be on the lockdown.

The president will give away forward on whether the further lifting of the lockdown will happen or not.

In his last address, the president had announced that public transport resumes on June 4th provided face masks have been made available to all Ugandans 6 years and above.

The president also ordered the opening of academic and tertiary institutions for all finalists from p.7 to s.6 and undergraduates.
