The government has postponed the distribution exercise of free masks that was meant to start on Wednesday 10th June 2020.

During a national address on the 9th June 2020, hero’s day, president Museveni promised that the government would start the process of distributing masks today with border districts.

However, the Ministry’s permanent secretary Dr. Diana Atwine says the masks are not ready yet because the factories responsible for production have delayed in producing the recommended three-pocketed face masks.

Dr. Atwine attributes the delay in production to a change in specifications of layers on the facemasks from the previous 2pockets to now 3.

The change that was initiated by the Cabinet and the Health Ministry now awaits approval from the Uganda National Bureau of standards-UNBS.

Dr. Ben Manyindo the executive director of UNBS says the production will have to wait for another 3 days as the samples undergo necessary tests and approval.
