The fate of two security personnel accused of shooting dead a primary school headteacher in Mukono District now lies in the hands of the Director of Public Prosecutions -DPP.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson says the Criminal Investigations Directorate –CID has submitted the file to the Director of Public Prosecution for review and response.

The deceased identified as Eric Mutasiga a headteacher of Merry Time Primary School in Mukono was last month shot in an operation by a policeman and an LDU enforcing the curfew as part of Covid-19 guidelines.

He later succumbed to injuries on June 9 at Mulago hospital.

After the shooting, the two security personnel defended their action in statements to police saying they fired live bullets at Mutasiga in self-defense.

The suspects were then released on police bond.

The duo was later charged before the death of Mutasiga with assault, shooting, and causing injuries to a person and they were expected to face the disciplinary tribunal.

However, now with the death of Mutasiga the office of the CID has been contemplating whether to prefer the criminal charge of manslaughter or murder the duo.

This is because Mutasiga could have fought armed officers on duty making them fire back in self-defense.

Enanga says it’s upon this that they have decided to forward the file to the DPP for guidance.

Police had earlier told journalists that Mutasiga fought the security officers.
