Police have on Friday made a u-turn by denying any involvement in the killing of a man during the fracas of dispersing an armed gang of people for illegally evicting at the home of a one Abdu Mbeera a resident of Kifampa zone Makindye ll parish.
On Thursday evening Police in Katwe fired live bullets to disperse an unidentified group of people who arrived in a motor vehicle registration number UBC 337A to effect an illegal eviction at 9 pm.
The group was armed with clubs, hammers and machetes started demolishing houses belonging to Mbeera .
The said eviction was after one of the sons claimed to have sold the land to a city businessman
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owesigyire says that security personnel responded to an alert and found the group in action.
Police revealed then that 1 man was shot at during the incident while the crowd fled away.
The deceased Farouk Mutakaya, a resident of Bwaise II in Kawempe died in the process and his body was rushed to the City Mortuary for a postmortem.
However, Owoyesigirye now says a post mortem report indicates that Mutakaya, died of injuries inflicted on him by blunt objects implying he was beaten to death.
