The minister of health-MOH Dr, Ruth Jane Acheng has announced that free face mask distribution kicks off on Friday 31st July 2020 in Kampala metropolitan areas.

Acheng said this while updating the nation on the situation of COVID -19 in Uganda on Thursday afternoon.

She revealed that the government has in store 4,908,507 face masks that have been handed over to the MOH for the distribution process that starts with Mukono and Wakiso districts.

“Face masks will be distributed in Kampala metropolitan area, Mukono and Wakiso districts and this will commence tomorrow Friday 31st July 2020,” said Aceng.

She explained that the government has planned for 6,700,000 face masks for the population covering the Kampala metropolitan area.

The exercise that started in May 2020 with border districts, has seen the distribution of 8,229,803 face masks to 27 districts across the country.

The districts that have benefited from free face masks include Tororo, Gulu, Hoima, Ntungamo Kakumiro, Masaka, Kumi, Moroto, Lira, Mbarara, Yumbe, Soroti, Kamuli, Kasanda, Omoro, Jinja, Kiruhura ,Kabale,Amuru, Kyotera, Buikwe, Arua, Adjumani, Isingiro, Rakai, Busia and Moyo, .

Acheng says the exercise has now shifted gears to cities, municipalities, and districts along the cargo transit routes.
