The freshest party on the block, National Unity Platform -NUP seems to be gradually adding to its numbers in the political wave of crossovers ahead of 2021 general elections.

This follows the latest addition of 5 legislators including Patrick Nsamba Oshabe MP, Kasanda County North MP, and John Baptiste Nambeshe MP-Manjiya county, Francis Zaake -Independent, Mityana Municipality, David Kalwanga- Busujju County and Latif Ssebaggala Independent, Kawempe North.

The legislators who previously subscribed to the ruling National Resistance Movement -NRM and Independent candidates were on Monday morning initiated at the NUP party at the headquarters in Kamwokya on Monday.

The conversion of the said legislators has not taken many by surprise and was largely expected considering they were in the recent past passionately affiliated to the people power movement.

Kasanda County North MP Nsamba described the NRM party chairperson as a dictator and urged others to follow the lead in ousting him.

“We are going to change Uganda and we are not going to use guns. If you are tired of what you see happening, take a decision like I have, join our struggle, and let’s send the dictator to rest.”Nsamba said.

The party head Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who officiated at the welcoming ceremony described it as a great honor to have former NRM members come to his side.

NUP in the same event also welcomed other leaders at different levels including mayors and councilors including the Nakawa mayor, Ronald Balimwezo among others.

Bobi Wine on July 14th, 2020 took over the leadership of NUP political party as the president from the previous head Moses Nkonge Kibalama.

NUP is said to be a merger with the People Power pressure group.
