MAKERERE UNIVERSITY, KAMPALA

Prof. William Bazeyo has a lot of explaining to do with his academic credentials after his PHD attracted attention.

Prof. Bazeyo was shortlisted for the position of deputy vice chancellor finance and administration, Makerere University.

Two Makerere University alumni have emerged to punch holes in Prof. Bazeyo’s PHD which he obtained from Atlantic International University.

The pair Sam Ninsiima and Amos Welike through their lawyers Birungi, Nalunkuma & Company Advocates claim Prof. Bazeyo was ‘erroneously shortlisted for the position’.

The law firm in a statement they issued to Galaxy FM website, write: “We act on behalf of our clients Mr. Sam Ninsiima and Mr. Amos Welike who are Alumni of Makerere University.

“Our clients would like to bring to your attention in public interest that Prof. William Bazeyo one of the applicants for the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration was erroneously shortlisted for the above mentioned position.”

“In your advertisement for this position, the first requirement was that the applicant should have a PHD or academic Doctorate.”

The pair claim: “Prof. William Bazeyo obtained his PHD from Atlantic International University which is NOT accredited by agencies recognised by the US Department of Education. Awards of Atlantic International University are NOT recognised by the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda.

“Our clients first raised a red flag on the 29th of June 2020, when they instructed us to write to the Academic Registrar to inquire the accreditation status of Atlantic International University. The Academic Registrar’s Office, being the secretariat in this search committee should have taken keen interest in this institution and conducted due diligence. Instead on the 17th of July, we received a reply from the Academic Registrar informing us that the mandate to confirmation of accreditation status of higher institutions lies in with National Council for Higher Education.”

“Therefore, our clients have confirmed beyond reasonable doubt that Prof. William Bazeyo has no authentic PHD,  a requisite qualification for the position of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (F&A) as stipulated in the advert.”

“For the sake of integrity of this search process, the image and reputation of Makerere University, we demand that Prof. William Bazeyo be dropped immediately from the list of candidates for the position of Deputy Vice Chacellor (F&A).”
