Police in Kampala has thrown into custody an LC1 chairman for the disarming of a police officer who was guarding a polling station on Tuesday.

Joachim Kimera the LC 1 Kiyaga zone in Bwaise 1 reportedly mobilized 6 men to grab a fire weapon belonging to CPL Jack Rutabaleka during the declaration of election results on Tuesday.

The incident happened after the National Unity Platform-NUP won the National resistance movement-NRM by a margin of 21 and 09 votes respectively prompting chaos among them.

Police says in the process, the rowdy youth turned to an armed Rutabaleka who was guarding the polling station at Kiyaga Zone and started insulting him.

Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango says Kimera gathered a team of six men who abruptly captured the Rutabaleka from the back before he removed the gun.

Onyango says Kimera was thrown behind the coolers in the morning on charges of obstruction and assault as police searches for the six suspects involved in the incident.
