Police have issued criminal summons against Hoima Woman Member of Parliament, Harriet Mugenyi Businge for reportedly mobilizing the battering of her political rival Beatrice Wembabazi, to a coma.

The two women are contesting for the National Resistance Movement-NRM party ticket for Hoima Woman’s parliamentary seat.

Wembabazi is currently hospitalized at Mulago National Referral hospital where she was referred for specialized medication attention after being clobbered to a pulp by her opponent’s driver.

Preliminary findings indicate that Busingye reportedly sent her driver to attack Wembabazi who was on her way back from consultations with voters at Runga landing site on Tuesday night.

It is alleged that Wembabazi and her driver were waylaid at Kiryatete village in Kigorobya Sub County by Businge’s driver, Henry Gama who blocked the road before bouncing out of his ride to beat them

Wembabazi was allegedly attacked by Businge’s team at Kiryatete village in Kigorobya Sub County on Tuesday evening while returning from Runga landing site where she had gone to consult voters.

Wembabazi is still in coma after she sustained multiple injuries to the head, chest and stomach while his driver sustained injuries on the ears and head.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, has condemned political violence and says Businge and her driver must show up to Hoima Central Police Station on Friday and account for what happened for justice to take its course.
