KAMPALA, UGANDA: Rebecca Kadaga has returned to NRM top governing body CEC after brushing off Persis Namuganza.

Kadaga who doubles as Speaker of Parliament, faced opposition after an audio of chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa asking members to vote for her rival Namuganza circulated on social media.

Kadaga and Namuganza contested the 2nd National Vice Chairperson in the NRM CEC Elections. The Speaker roared to victory garnering 6,776 votes to Namuganza’s 3,943.

The Speaker’s deputy in the house, Jacob Oulanyah claimed the Vice Chairperson Northern region position running home with 7,474 votes.

Oulanyah defeated Sam Engola (1,665), Timothy Okee (895) and Samuel Odongo Oledo (277).

Minister Kiwanda Godfrey Ssuubi emerged victorious in the Vice Chairperson Central region race with 4,749 votes.

Kiwanda had Moses Kalangwa Kalisa (3, 701), John Magaro (675) and Moses Mayengo (127) all pushing to have a share of the cake.

Capt. Mike Mukula claimed the Vice Chairperson Eastern slot walking away with 5,818 votes. Mukula brushed aside threat from Sanjay Tana (4,162) and Christine Harriet Akello (162).
