A 25-year old man who went fishing in on lake Victoria in Mayuge district at night has had his leg torn to pieces by a crocodile.

The victim identified as Charles Owori was reportedly attacked from behind by the giant reptile, which can grow to 20 feet (6m) long
at Bugoto landing site in Bukaboli sub-county on Lake Victoria.

The fisher also had one of his fingers bitten in half as he tried to defend himself but it bit through his leg.

The Bugoto Parish councilor Majidu Mukuve says the victim has been taken to Iganga-Nakavule hospital for treatment.

He has warned fishermen to desist from working late in the night and has appealed to the government through Uganda wildlife authority to intervene.
