President Museveni has ordered an investigation into the killing of National Unity Platform presidential aspirant–Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma 2 years after his demise.

Museveni has also accused Kyagulanyi of sneaking into the Ugandan security and killing his own supporters and later holding the government accountable.

Kawuma was shot dead on August 13th in 2018 by a stray bullet in Arua where Bobi wine had gone to campaign for Kasiano Wadri for the Arua municipality seat that fell vacant when the former MP, Ibrahim Abiriga was killed.

Kawuma was shot dead from inside Bobi Wine’s Tundra vehicle near Hotel Pacific in Arua town on a Monday evening as police officers tried to control Wadri and Bobi Wine’s supporters who reportedly attacked the convoy of President Yoweri Museveni.

Museveni said in a statement on Thursday that the death of Kawuuma was mysterious. And should be investigated.

“In Arua, they stoned my vehicle and attacked NRM supporters who were coming from my rally, they had even driven a road grader (tinga tinga) all the way from Kampala, I think, to use in ramming our vehicles,” Museveni said

“Eventually, they found them in a hotel. These wonderful gentlemen tried to assault our soldiers with punches.”

“The soldiers punched them back until they subdued them. It is very impressive that the soldiers never used guns against Bobi Wine and Zaake in the hotel rooms where they were making a fool of themselves trying to box soldiers as if they were boxing village thieves. One person died outside the hotel in mysterious circumstances.”

Bobi Wine’s camp has since buried a number of its members who have reportedly died in the hands of security personnel including Ritah Nabukenya who was reportedly run over by a police patrol truck and Dan Kyeyune who was shot dead in the head at Nnasana on their way from Nabukenya’s burial.
