Starting tomorrow 1st September 2020, all those interested in getting tested for Covid-19 will be forced to vomit $65 -240,500 shillings according to the Ministry of Health.
The announcement to start charging the individual fee for COVID -19 was made on Sunday after the ministry of health declared that it was running out of resources for continued testing of COVID-19 due to an increase in demand for free testing.
Geoffrey Seremba the permanent secretary Ministry of Health says the 240,500 shillings is a cost recovery mechanism to ensure continuity in testing across the country.
“The Ministry continues to receive requests from Organizations to have their staff-tested, which it finds difficult to sustain due to the inadequate in-country stock of test kits, resource constraints, and the high cost of COVID- I 9 testing,” Seremba said.
He adds that among the categories to be tested include Individuals, Private and Public companies, Ugandans returning from abroad, Truck drivers entering the country, and visitors.
He however says that Free testing services will still apply to persons with COVID-19 symptoms, Frontline health workers, Contacts of people who have tested positive, community surveys, and surveillance samples.
The Ministry says the money will be paid via the account number 9030017657983, Stanbic Bank.
