Maj. Peter Mugisha the 3rd division army spokesperson has blamed the community in Moroto where over 219 inmates escaped for aiding the process.

219 inmates overpowered the security at the facility and broke into the armory stealing 15 SF rifles before escaping at 4:30 pm on Wednesday.

This revelation comes after efforts by police, army, and other security agencies to find the inmates are thinning and leading to lesser results.

By Thursday afternoon the Prison authorities announced that only 7 inmates had been located of the 219,3 were killed in the process alongside a UPDF soldier who was killed in a shoot out.

Mugisha says that efforts to locate the inmates are getting tighter because the community has gotten involved by providing them with a safe place for shelter and change of clothes to hide their identity.

He says since the majority of them are not in the yellow uniforms anymore it has become difficult to identify.

He however adds that despite the narrow expectations of finding the escapees who have now scattered in the rangeland of Karamoja are still ongoing.

Frank Baine, the Prison spokesperson, has acknowledged that after more than 24 hours, their hope was equally fading.
