Police have announced that the distressed Boda Boda rider who burnt himself with petrol 30 meters from the Kireka police post in Kampala has succumbed to his injuries.

Emma Kabanda, died on Thursday night at Kirrudu hospital where he was admitted on the 13th of September 2020.

ASP Luke Owoyesigire, Kampala Metropolitan Police Mouthpiece says 6 police officers attached to the Kireka police post have so far been arrested in connection to Kabanda’s attempted suicide.

He says the officers are currently being held by professional standards unit -PSU officials at railway grounds police for inquiries into the cause of the attempted suicide.

Kabanda reportedly set himself up on Sunday at 9:30 pm after his motorcycle was impounded at the police station for breach of curfew.

Emmanuel Kabanda and 10 other Boda riders were reportedly netted by police officers doing their routine patrol working off curfew hours at 8:30 PM and their motorcycles were all impounded at Kireka Police post yard.

Kabanda later stormed the police post at about 9 pm and demanded his machine Reg.no UDU 610H but was instead asked to return in the morning.

Kabanda left and was shortly heard yelling for help about 30 meters from the police post with his body on fire, police officers immediately rushed to the scene and poured water on him before taking him to Kiruddu Hospital in a critical state.

His lifeless body has been conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem,.

Meanwhile, statements were already recorded from all the witnesses and exhibits including a mineral water bottle that he allegedly used for buying petrol, burnt shirt, shoes, and others were recovered and transferred to Government Analytical Laboratory for analysis.
