The Electoral Commission-EC has pushed further the nomination exercise for persons seeking to contest for local council positions from 1st October 2020 to 5th.

The exercise has been extended due to an overwhelming number of aspirants from all the 146 districts seeking to be elected in the 2021 general polls.

The nomination process involving district, Municipality/City Division councilors, Chairpersons, and mayors across the country kicked off on September 21 and meant to close today, October.

It also includes Sub County/Town Chairpersons and Councillors being nominated from their respective County headquarters.

However, due to the high numbers of aspirants at the nomination centers, the Electoral Commission has taken a decision to extend the period for another four days.

EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi says in a statement that the extension is effective immediately , continuing the process from Friday, through the weekend at the same venues from 9 am, and is expected to end on Monday next week.
