President Yoweri Museveni has in a twist of events allowed for learners and teachers to use public transport when reporting to school.

This follows a ban on the use of public transportation like taxis, Buses, or bodabodas for both learners and teachers by the Ministry of Education as part of the guidelines for reopening come 15th oct.2020.

The ministry encouraged parents to opt for taking their children to schools nearest to their homes to the risk of them contracting the virus or instead designated school vans.

However, Museveni says there is no need to ban public means for learners as long as they can adhere to the standard operating procedures by the Ministry of health including carrying half capacity of passengers, sanitizing, and wearing facemasks.

Museveni was responding to criticisms aired by the Uganda National Teacher Association on how teachers who don’t reside within a school’s staff quarters will manage to transport themselves minus public means.
