Its a moment of grief for many free-spirited buzz-loving Ugandans in after the passing of a prominent bar owner of Nexus bar and events based in the Kiwatule-Najjera known as Ivan Kakooza.

Kakooza has passed on Friday morning at Mulago Hospital where he had been admitted while reportedly battling depression and Lung infections for days.

However, some sources claim that the deceased died from the COVID -19 pandemic after it irreversibly damaged his lungs.


Nexus Manager Joan Kaitetsi confirmed that Kakoza has been ill with an unconfirmed condition for the past one month and he passed on from Mulago National referral hospital this morning.

Some reports also suggest that the deceased had accrued loans from commercial banks and defaulted on payments hence leading to high-stress levels.

Kakooza’s bar and events business suffered looses when the government instituted a national lockdown in March 2020, over six months ago.

Kakooza had reportedly planned a massive musical concert to import an international artist but it hit a dead end following the National lockdown as a result of the Covid19 pandemic.

Kakooza was last spotted at the Members of the Legit Bar, Entertainment, and Restaurant Owners Association of Uganda presser in September this year while appealing to the President to Re-open their Businesses with Standard Operating procedures.

Legit Bar, Entertainment, and Restaurant Owners Association that started a year ago constitute various proprietors of Bars, restaurants, music promoters, and concert organizers, and managers among others.
