The National Unity Platform (NUP) has on Monday officially unveiled NUP campaign posters for their presidential aspirant Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine without the signature a red beret.

The red beret which has been an icon for the popular People Power movement is not recognized as the NUP party symbols by the Electoral Commission regulations.

In the poster, Kyagulanyi is clad in a blue suit with the party symbol of an umbrella and the slogan ‘a new Uganda’

Joel Ssenyonyi the National Unit Platform spokesperson has implored the Police to respect their posters since they are legally accepted by the Electoral Commission.

“We want to warn the police to leave our posters because we are operating within the law. We have seen incidents where our Members of Parliament and presidential candidates posters are pulled down by the police but this should stop,” Ssenyonyi said.

He says the poster will be placed in the City and across the country because they are now working within the law.

Ssenyonyi has asked the public to get used to the picture without a beret since it will appear on the ballot paper.

A number of posters of presidential and parliamentary aspirants belonging to NUP were defaced or removed in the last few weeks by police saying that they were blocking visibility in the city.

So far only 3 candidates including NRM’s Yoweri Museveni and FDC’s Patrick Oboi Amuriat as the only presidential candidates who have unveiled their official campaign posters.
