On Sunday evening the president updated the nation on COVID 19 and the state of security in the country.

This comes as Uganda continues to register a surge in covid 19 cases with over 1900 patients per week. It also comes on the heels of unrest that happened on the 18th and 19th November when NUP’S Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine supporters rioted after he was arrested in luuka district.

As a result, over 54 people died and more than 100 are still battling their lives in Mulago hospital.

President Museveni has however assured victims of the riots that government will compensate them or their families.

But the President says the government will only compensate those that were innocently affected in the riots after thorough investigations.

He says if it can be verified, then people that were harmless yet gunned down will have their families compensated.

“Government will compensate all those who were not rioters but lost lives in those protests. After due process government will compensate for the loss of life and properties if it can be verified but not the rioters,” Museveni said on Sunday afternoon.
