The younger brother to president Yoweri Museveni, Godfrey Aine Kaguta aka Sodo has pulled out of the Mawogola North Constituency parliamentary seat just hours to the general polls on Thursday.

Sodo was among eight aspirants seeking to replace the Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kahamba Kuteesa, who retired from elective politics.

The race has however been tight and bloody between Sodo and Sam Kutesa’s daughter Shartsi Mushurure Kuteesa to take up the position.

Both candidates were standing as independent tickets after the National Resistance Movement– NRM party failed to agree on which candidate to front.

Sodo says after several engagements between him, his campaign teams, and President Museveni, he decided to take the back seat.

Sodo adds that he was advised to step down for Shartsi and call peace for the purposes of building unity both within the party and their family.

Sodo and Museherure were standing as independent candidates following the controversy that surrounded the election and results from the National Resistance Movement Party primaries in the area.

Shartsi will now contest against Henry Nyanzi for National Unity Platform-NUP, Moses Lyazi of the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC, and independents Salim Kisekka, Ismail Wagaba, Christine Nakayiza and Hillary Tukundane.
