David Luiz is set to be offered another extension at Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta greatly values his influence on a young team.

The club’s general policy has been to offer one-year deals to players over the age of 30, so the Brazilian’s current contract runs out at the end of June. Arteta wants the 33-year-old to sign on again as he performs a key role in the side.

A return to form, claims the Metro, as well as being a big presence in the dressing room has done enough for David Luiz to earn at least another season in north London.

Luiz’s form has split the fan base at times, but he’s worked hard and performed reliably for the club in recent games, despite a sending off in the defeat to Wolves.

With Mikel Arteta bringing through more youth and integrating new incoming players, an experienced head like Luiz will be worth his extra one year contract, until 2022, to help facilitate the transition into next season.
