Express FC have ended Wakiso giants unbeaten run of the season 2020/21 Startimes Uganda Premier league season.

Wakiso giants had collected eight draws and a win from their opening nine games but goals from George Ssenkaaba, Charles Musiige and Godfrey Lwesibawa saw the Red Eagles humble the Purple Sharks 3-0 at Betway Muteesa II Stadium-Wankulukuku.

Express FC started the game the brightest side and had their first attempt at the goal in the 5th minute when Charles Musiige was fouled just outside the box by Faizul Ibrahim. Godfrey Lwesibawa stepped up but bulleted his effort just above the crossbar .

Two minutes later, Express broke the deadlock after a well worked Lwesibawa freekick found Eric Kambale unmarked in the box with just the Wakiso Giants goalie to beat.

Express continued to pile more pressure on the purple sharks backline and in the process doubled their lead in the 11th minute when Charles Musiige beat Wakiso’s offside trap, raced onto the ball and carefully placed it past Kirya and into the back of the net.

It was until in the 17th minutes when Wakiso had their first attempt at goal but failed to capitalized as Kipson Atuheire put his freekick effort just above the crossbar.

Despite being two goals up, Express continued to look for more goals before the break as Musiige saw his curved effort goes wide before Arthur Kiggundu was denied by Kirya after making an excellent run from the right in the 37th minute.

Just before the halftime break, Lwesibawa was also denied a chance to get his name on the scoresheet by Simon Namwaja after the left-back ran back to make an exquisite tackle before just before Lwesibawa could pull the strings.

As like in the first half, the first attempt at goal in the second half fell to the home side, Express but Kiggundu freekick went meters wide from the left-hand post.

Two minutes afterwards from a freekick after a foul on Ssenkaaba, Lwesibawa got the Red Eagle’s third in the 50th minute after a deflection off a defensive wall.

Express continued to attack the Wakiso end with ease but Namwaja made a late ditch clearance to deny a Musiige effort with Kirya well beaten.

In the 54th minute, Lwesibawa wasted a brilliant chance to take his side 4-0 up after Ssenkaaba dribbled past two players to set him up with simple the Wakiso goalie to beat but the forward skyed his effort disappointingly above the bar.

The Wakiso Giants best player of the day, Kirya denied Kambale after the youngster made a wonderful turn to guide his effort goal-wise but Kirya raced off his line to make a save.

Substitute Frank Kalanda, who came on George Ssenkaaba had a chance to get the Red Eagle’s fourth of the game in the 80th minute but once again, Kirya was superb in denying the Express forward.

The win today extends Express unbeaten run to 10 games and take them top of the log with 22 points, surpassing the defending champions, Vipers SC by a point with a game played more than the venoms.
