Gospel singer Grace Nakimera has revealed that she so often had requests from city DJs who wanted to water her beans in exchange for her airplay in clubs and bars years ago before her breakthrough.

In 2005, Grace Nakimera got her breakthrough hit single dubbed ‘Ani Akumanyi‘.

At that time, the internet penetration was poor so musicians had to promote their songs physically by giving them to Djs on CDs.

Grace Nakimeera was one of the people who succeeded at this as evidence by her long stay at the top that lasted nearly seven years before she lost momentum.

According to the singer, female musicians used to sleep with Djs in exchange for airplay but she never bent that low and her music was always played because it was good.

“We used to walk around with CDs since there were no flash disks at the time, but every time I would give in my music, they would expect something like sex in exchange for airplay.” She said.

“They didn’t even listen to the song first… all they said was that they don’t just play it for free. Many women fell for it but personally, I refused and they ended up playing my songs because I had good music,” Gospel singer Grace Nakimera added during an interview.

Grace Nakimeera later diverted to Charity and Gospel that is hard to sell to the masses thus her average performance musically.

The gospel singer also runs a charity organization that has helped a number of homeless children in the slums of Kampala and the surrounding areas.

Music is now just a passion as she spends most of her time focusing on her ever-growing real estate business that has made her one of the richest female musicians in the Ugandan music industry competing with the likes of Sheebah and Juliana Kanyomozi.
